Don’t overthink upper body training for runners.
When I program for distance runners, I focus on two things:
🔹 Postural Endurance
🔹 General Strength
Here are simple progressions I use to build both:
Postural Endurance
* Marching Ws
* Marching 90/90s
* Resisted Row + Squat
* Farmer’s Carries
General Strength
Pushup Progression
* Push-Up Hold
* Incline Push-Up
* Standard Push-Up
Pull-Up Progression
* Bar Hangs
* Eccentric Chin-Ups
* Full Chin-Ups
Pick 1–2 of these and through them at the end of a lifting session.
